Czech Menopause and Andropause Society (CMAS)
History of interest in menopause and climacteric medicine in the former Czechoslovakia started 40 years ago in November 1973 , when the first conference of the Czechoslovak gynecologic society called " menopause " in Bratislava, Slovakia . The conference showed that menopause is a major focus of Czechoslovak Gynecologists.
Unfortunately, menopause remained in Czechoslovakia marginal gynecological health care problems and political system of the country did not support the cooperation with western countries .
The second conference " climacteric and senium " was held again in Bratislava, in 1985 and its successful conclusions have been applied in clinical practice.
In 1994, already separated country held the Czech conference " Gynecological Endocrinology " in Hradec nad Moravicí in which section on climacteric and menopause gave Doc.MUDr.Josef Donat , MD, founder of the Czech menopausal society. The Society was founded at the Founding Conference June 7, 1995 in Prague.
The first scientific conference on menopause held in Prague 5 to 7 June 1996 on "The risks of menopause - prevention and treatment ." The second conference was also held in Prague from 4 to 6 June 1998 with a large international participation . The leaders of the world menopause Utian from USA , Schneider NSR , Rozenbaum from France, Birkhauser from Switzerland, Pines of Israel, Mc Lennan from Australia, Metka from Austria, Milewicz from Poland, Motta of Italy and others came to Prague with his lectures. Both of these conferences was attended by 400 participants and society at that time had 323 members.
From 2002 to 2007, Czech menopause and andropause Society organized a conferences on menopause each year since 2008 every second year in close cooperation together with the Slovak Society for Gynecological Endocrinology and menopause.
In 2002, the Czech menopause Society split into two parts as an independent and interdisciplinary Czech menopausal and andropauzální Society (CMAS) for climacteric women and men and the Society for menopausal issues (SOM) only for gynecologists, which is a division of Czech Gynaecological and Obstetrical Society. Now the 162 CMAS members and SOM 204 members.
Society for menopause issues since 1995 and since 2002 Czech menopause and andropause society organized a total of 11 scientific conferences in Prague (1996, l998, 2000), Hradec Králové (2002, 2003, 2005), Ostrava (2004), Brno (2006), Hradec nad Moravicí (2006), Špindlerův Mlýn (2009) and in Seč (2011) and separately 3 interdisciplinary conference " climacteric medicine for physicians " in Ostrava (1996, 1999) and Olomouc (1997).
Since 2008 CMAS Conference and SOM wrought around the 18th October, the World Day of menopause. The main theme of the last 11.konference held on Sec on 14-16 October 2011 , the climacteric syndrome and its hormonal and alternative treatment.
Prof.Donát is the chairman of both societies since their inception until today. The Committee of both companies is elected every four years, the next election will be in December 2014. Vice-chairmen of CMAS is doc. MUDr.Peter Koliba, CSc., Scientific secretary of CMAS is MUDr.Jaroslav Jeníček, CSc. treasurer MUDr.Tomáš Fait, Ph.D. Members of the Committee are prof. MUDr. Jaroslav Blahoš,DrSc., Members of the audit committee are prof. MUDr.Jaroslav Živný, Dr.Sc. . as chairman, prof. MUDr. Jan Hořejší, Dr.Sc., and prim. MUDr. Ladislav Hanousek as members.
CMAS is also active internationally: it is affiliated to the International Menopause Society ( IMS ) as a member of CAMS, for many years was a member of the European Menopause Society (EMAS). Prof. Donát was a foreign member of the North American Menopause Society (NAMSA) in the years 1997-2013 .
At present, the CMAS aims :
First
Promote the study of all aspects of menopause for women and men , particularly in postmenopausal women with estrogen deficiency.
Second
Organize a conferences on menopause every two years. Next one, the 12th conference will be held in 2014.
3rd
Collaborate with other specialized doctors and general practitioners through conferences, journal "Klimakterická medicína" and other medical journals.
4th
Inform women and men about health in older age, the prevention and also of diagnosis and treatment in magazines, lectures and other media .
5th
Collaborate with IMS to prepare 15th World Congress on the Menopause in Prague in 2017.
